FAQ
Frequently asked questions about EZSCAPE plugins, including updating, backup, and troubleshooting.
I can't find the plugin in DaVinci Resolve
The search bar at the top of the Effects Library does not search inside OpenFX plugins. If you type "Ditheron" or "CRTified" into that search bar, nothing will come up.
Instead, navigate manually:
Effects Library > OpenFX > EZSCAPE > (plugin name)
All EZSCAPE plugins live under the EZSCAPE group inside OpenFX. Once you know where to look, they are always there.
I can't find the plugin in Final Cut Pro
Open the Effects browser with Command-5. Navigate to Video > EZSCAPE and you will see the plugin listed there. Drag it onto a clip in your timeline, then open the Video Inspector to access all controls and enter your license key.
Where are presets stored?
User presets are stored locally on your machine and persist across all projects.
| Platform | Location |
|---|---|
| Windows | %APPDATA%\(plugin name)\presets\ |
| macOS | ~/Library/Application Support/(plugin name)/presets/ |
Presets do not transfer between machines automatically. To move them, copy the folder.
Updating plugins
EZSCAPE plugins are under active development. We may ship new features between releases, and new features can add or change controls. This can sometimes cause issues with projects saved under older versions.
The safest approach: finish any in-progress projects before updating.
If you update mid-project, here is what can happen and how to handle it.
DaVinci Resolve (OFX)
Resolve handles plugin updates well. When new controls are added, Resolve assigns them their default values automatically. Your existing settings stay intact.
In most cases, your DVR projects will open and look the same after updating.
The exception: if a control was renamed or restructured between versions, Resolve may not map the old value to the new one. This is rare, and the release notes will say so when it happens.
After Effects
After Effects is less forgiving. AE ties your saved effect settings to the exact parameter layout of the plugin. If the layout changes between versions, AE may show an "effect control conversion required" warning and reset some or all of your controls to defaults.
This means your AE composition may look different after updating mid-project.
Recommended update workflow
- Finish current projects first. Render out any active timelines before updating.
- Keep a backup of the old version. Before installing a new version, copy the current plugin files to a safe location. If something goes wrong, you can drop the old files back in.
- Read the release notes. Breaking changes are called out in the changelog.
- Test on a copy. If you need the new version but have an active project, duplicate your project file and open the copy first to see if anything shifted.
Backup locations
Ditheron
| Platform | Path |
|---|---|
| DVR (Windows) | C:\Program Files\Common Files\OFX\Plugins\Ditheron.ofx.bundle\ |
| DVR (Mac) | /Library/OFX/Plugins/Ditheron.ofx.bundle/ |
| AE (Windows) | C:\Program Files\Adobe\Common\Plug-ins\7.0\MediaCore\Ditheron\ |
| AE (Mac) | ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Common/Plug-ins/7.0/MediaCore/Ditheron/ |
| FCP (Mac) | /Library/Plug-Ins/FxPlug/Ditheron.fxplug |
CRTified
| Platform | Path |
|---|---|
| DVR (Windows) | C:\Program Files\Common Files\OFX\Plugins\CRTified.ofx.bundle\ |
| DVR (Mac) | /Library/OFX/Plugins/CRTified.ofx.bundle/ |
| AE (Windows) | C:\Program Files\Adobe\Common\Plug-ins\7.0\MediaCore\CRTified\ |
| AE (Mac) | ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Common/Plug-ins/7.0/MediaCore/CRTified/ |
| FCP (Mac) | /Library/Plug-Ins/FxPlug/CRTified.fxplug |
Copy the entire folder somewhere safe before installing the update.
Rolling back
If an update caused problems with your project:
- Close your host application (Resolve, After Effects, or Final Cut Pro).
- Delete the current plugin folder from the locations above.
- Copy your backed-up version back into the same location.
- Reopen your project. It should load with the original settings.
Why this happens
We are a small independent studio building plugins in public. New dither modes, new signal engines, new controls all change the parameter layout of the plugin. The alternative would be to freeze features and only ship bug fixes. We think you would rather have the new capabilities, but it does mean updating mid-project carries some risk.
We are working on parameter versioning for After Effects to make future updates smoother.
