Ditheron
Troubleshooting
Solutions for common issues with Ditheron.
Troubleshooting
Plugin Not Appearing
DaVinci Resolve:
- Make sure Resolve is fully closed before installing
- After installing, delete the OFX plugin cache:
- Windows:
%AppData%\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve\Support\OFXPluginCache - macOS:
~/Library/Application Support/Blackmagic Design/DaVinci Resolve/Support/OFXPluginCache
- Windows:
- Restart Resolve
- Look in: Effects Library > OpenFX > Stylize > Ditheron
After Effects:
- Make sure AE is fully closed before installing
- After installing, delete the plugin cache:
- Windows:
%AppData%\Adobe\After Effects\[version]\Adobe After Effects [version] Prefs-effects.txt - macOS:
~/Library/Preferences/Adobe/After Effects/[version]/Adobe After Effects [version] Prefs-effects.txt
- Windows:
- Restart After Effects
- Look in: Effect > EZscape > Ditheron
The installer clears the cache automatically, but if you installed while the host app was still running, you'll need to clear it manually.
Performance Issues
Slow playback:
- Ditheron is GPU-accelerated. If your system has an NVIDIA GPU, it should run in real-time at 1080p on most footage.
- If playback is slow, check that your GPU drivers are up to date.
- On systems without a supported GPU, Ditheron falls back to CPU processing, which is slower. Consider rendering to cache.
- Glow adds processing overhead. Disable it while editing, enable for final render.
- Higher Scale values are actually faster (fewer calculations per pixel).
- Downscale can improve performance since the dithering operates on a smaller image.
DaVinci Resolve: Use Resolve's Smart Cache (Playback > Render Cache > Smart) to cache Ditheron's output for smooth playback.
After Effects: Pre-render Ditheron layers or use AE's Disk Cache.
Presets Not Saving
- Make sure you've typed a name in the Preset Name field before clicking Save
- Preset slots are limited to 20. If all slots are full, delete one to make room.
- User presets are stored locally on your machine. They don't transfer between machines automatically.
Custom Palette Import Not Working
- Hex codes should start with
#(e.g.#FF0000) - Separate multiple colors with commas, spaces, or dashes
- Coolors.co URLs should be the full URL (e.g.
https://coolors.co/264653-2a9d8f-e9c46a) - Maximum 5 colors. Extra colors are ignored.
License Issues
See the Activation page for detailed troubleshooting.
Image Looks Wrong After Applying
- Check the Adjustments section — Brightness, Contrast, or Gamma may have been changed from defaults
- Check if Invert is enabled
- Make sure Strength isn't at 0% (which would show the original image)
- Try resetting to a built-in preset to start from known-good values
Colors Look Different Than Expected
- Enable Color must be turned on for palette mapping to work
- Palette Mode must be set to match what you want (Preset vs Custom)
- Color Depth at high values (16-32) with a limited palette can look washed out — try lower values (2-4) for bolder results
- Saturation in the Adjustments section affects the input before palette mapping
