Creative recipes for common CRT looks using CRTified.

Workflows & Recipes

Here are some starting points for popular looks. Every value is a suggestion - tweak to taste.

Retro Arcade Monitor

Bright, punchy arcade cabinet CRT with visible phosphor structure.

ParameterValue
LookCoin-Op (or start from scratch below)
Mask TypeShadow Mask (Dot Triad)
Mask Pitch3.0 - 4.0
Mask Intensity60 - 80%
Raster Weight25%
Bloom Power80%
Color Intensity2.0 - 2.5
Output Gain1.5 - 2.0

Key: Visible mask + high color intensity + bright output is the arcade formula. The phosphor dots and vivid colors are what sell it.

VHS Tape Deck

Warm, degraded tape playback with color bleed and rolling artifacts.

ParameterValue
LookTape Player (or start from scratch)
Warp ShapeTape Slip (VHS Roll)
Signal Warp2.0 - 4.0
Signal Noise30 - 50%
Chroma Smear1.0 - 2.0
Static Amount20 - 35
Static TypePink (Rolling)
Brightness Wobble0.015
Color Intensity1.8
Blend85%

Key: The Tape Slip warp shape creates the rolling dropout band. Chroma Smear adds the horizontal color bleed that's signature VHS. Don't go 100% blend - mixing in some original image sells the analog quality.

Green Terminal

Monochrome computer terminal with phosphor persistence.

ParameterValue
LookTerminal (or start from scratch)
Mask TypeAperture Grille
Mask Pitch2.5
Phosphor Bleed25%
Bloom Power90%
Glow TintGreen (R: 0.3, G: 1.0, B: 0.3)
Color Intensity0.0 (fully desaturated)
Color Temp-0.3 (cool)
Static Amount10
Raster Weight40%

Key: Desaturate fully, then use Glow Tint to add the green phosphor color. The Aperture Grille gives you that Trinitron terminal look.

Surveillance Camera

Security camera feed - harsh, high contrast, unstable.

ParameterValue
LookSurveillance (or start from scratch)
Mask TypeRaster Only
Raster Weight45%
Tube Contrast0.4
Color Intensity0.6
Static Amount30
Static TypeWhite
Brightness Wobble0.03
Vertical Hold0.008
Output Gain1.8
Black Level-0.05

Key: Crushed blacks + desaturation + jitter. The Vertical Hold creates the unstable feeling. Keep the mask simple (Raster Only) since security monitors were cheap.

Subtle Film Grade

Barely-there CRT texture for a cinematic film look. No scanlines, just warmth and character.

ParameterValue
Mask TypeOff
Raster Weight0%
Phosphor Bleed8%
Bloom Power30%
Halo Power20%
Static Amount8
Static TypeBlue (Fine Grain)
Color StandardP22 (Consumer CRT)
CRT Gamma2.4
Blend60 - 75%

Key: Turn off the mask and scanlines entirely. Use just the color science, subtle grain, and glow to add warmth without screaming "retro." The P22 color standard shifts hues in a way that immediately feels analog. Blend back to taste.
