Gobo Layer

Far shadow layer with tree, fern, and leaf textures.

The far shadow. This layer draws from embedded 4K shadow maps of real organic shapes - trees, ferns, leaves. It produces that dappled, through-the-canopy light that immediately reads as "outdoors" or "window with foliage outside."

The gobo tiles seamlessly and blends at two scales for a natural, non-repeating look.

ParameterTypeDefaultDescription
Enable GoboToggleOnTurns the entire gobo layer on or off.
GoboChoice15 texturesTree 01Which shadow map to use. Trees, ferns, and leaves - each has its own density and character.
ScaleFloat0.1 - 5.01.5Texture zoom. Lower values spread more shadow across the frame. Higher values zoom in for tighter detail.
BlurFloat0% - 100%60%Softens the shadow edges. Simulates the light source being farther away - closer light means harder shadows.
Offset XFloat-2.0 - 2.00.0Horizontal position.
Offset YFloat-2.0 - 2.00.0Vertical position.
RotationFloat-180 - 1800Rotates the shadow pattern in degrees.
DensityFloat0% - 100%80%How much shadow the gobo casts. Lower values let more light through.

Tree 01 - 12Varied tree canopies. Each has a different branch structure and leaf density.
Fern 01 - 02Delicate, feathered fronds.
Leaves 01Dense, overlapping leaf cluster.

Tips

  • Lower Scale (0.5 - 1.0) with moderate Blur gives a wide, atmospheric shadow wash. Higher Scale (2.0+) isolates individual branches and leaf shapes.
  • Combine the gobo with the Frame layer (blinds or window) to simulate foliage visible through a window.
  • Try different gobo textures with the same settings. Each texture has its own personality at every scale.
  • Animate Offset X/Y over time for a slow pan effect, or let the built-in drift handle it automatically.
